AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Democrats in the Texas Senate have refused to vote for a school finance bill, guaranteeing a special session.
Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst said that despite his best efforts, he couldn’t get enough votes to pass the bill. He said the Senate would return on Tuesday for a special session.
A Fort Worth senator derailed the school finance bill Sunday night with a filibuster.
Dewhurst needed a four-fifths vote to resurrect the bill and pass it before a midnight deadline Monday.
