AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ A veteran of the San Antonio Fire Department who also leads the city’s Homeland Security efforts has been named interim chief of the Texas Division of Emergency Management.
The Department of Public Safety on Friday announced the appointment of San Antonio District Fire Chief W. Nim Kidd, effective July 1.
Kidd replaces Jack Colley, who suffered a heart attack and died May 16.
DPS says Kidd has served as San Antonio’s emergency manager since 2004, responsible for preparedness, response and recovery efforts for disasters. He has worked for the fire department since 1993.
