Two People Submit Paperwork In The Final Hour Of Local Candidate Filing

The filing deadline has passed for this November’s local city council and school board elections.

One former councilman is returning and a second is seeking to come back.

John Nichols, who ran for College Station mayor last year, was the only candidate for the council position being vacated by Julie Schultz, who is leaving due to term limits.

Former Bryan councilman Mitch Morehead filed shortly before the deadline for the single member district four position now held by Mike Southerland, who is seeking re-election. Morehead served between 2000 and 2003.

Another filing in the final hour was Diektrich Morgan, who is running for the Bryan school board against Julie Harlin…who is seeking her first full term.

Also on the Bryan school board, David Stasny drew no opposition to what will be his tenth term.

There are three candidates for the College Station school board position being vacated by Valerie Jochen. They are Shana Elliott, Geralyn Nolan, and Gerald Vervold.

CSISD incumbent Michael Schaefer is opposed by Jacquelyn Martin Huff.

Back to the College Station city council, incumbent Linda Harvell is opposed by Dallas Shipp.

And there are two candidates seeking the College Station council seat being vacated by Blanche Brick, who is term limited. They are Brick’s husband Bob and Elianor-Azarak Vessali.

And Bryan city councilman Greg Owens is running unopposed.

Early voting starts October 23rd. Voter registration continues through October 10th.
