Two New Local Scams

There are two new scams making the rounds.

College Station police officer Phil Dorsett says while you’re driving, someone tells you something’s wrong with your car. Dorsett says if you pull over then believe it’s a suspicious claim, then drive away or call the police department’s non-emergency phone at 979-764-3600.

And Atmos Energy has issued a nationwide alert to beware of bogus phone calls demanding payment for past due balances. Atmos spokesman Chace Murphy says they will verify all account information before asking for payment. Customers will be given payment options, and Murphy says customers can check the status of your Atmos account by phone, going online, or visiting an authorized payment location.
