Two Motorcyclists Die From Saturday Crashes Near Lake Somerville

A weekend motorcycle rally at Lake Somerville included a pair of crashes that resulted in two deaths.

DPS Trooper Jimmy Morgan says both wrecks were on Highway 60.

One was Saturday afternoon on a curve west of Lyons. Morgan says a motorcycle driven by 61 year old Gordon Hankins of Copeland took a curve too fast, went off the road, and struck a sign pole.

Morgan says Saturday evening at the intersection of Highway 60 and Park Road 57, the driver of a SUV turned into the path of a motorcycle who was also turning. 53 year old Hugh Davis of Caldwell, the driver of the motorcycle, was killed. His passenger, 56 year old Mary Katherine Davis of Caldwell, was taken to a Temple hospital in critical condition.

Jimmy Morgan visits with WTAW’s Bill Oliver.
