A mother of twin ten month olds and a five year old is out of jail after posting bonds following her arrest on charges of leaving the children alone in their S-U-V while she was grocery shopping. Bryan police arrest reports say the children were left unattended for about 15 minutes on Monday night (May 20) shortly before ten, when the temperature was in the low 80’s. The mother told the officer she was in the store for two minutes to get a couple of things. When the mother opened the rear door, the officer saw several full grocery bags and a double stroller that the officer said could have been used to take her twins inside. The children were placed in the custody of an aunt after 28 year old Katia Jimenez was arrested on three counts of child endangerment.

Bryan police respond to the area of Midtown Park last Thursday (May 16) during the midnight hour to a citizen’s report of a woman in the street carrying a newborn in an unsafe manner while it was raining. The BPD arrest report says at South College and Villa Maria, the citizen offered assisting the mother. The mother struck the citizen in the face with a closed fist and took the victim’s wedding ring. That resulted in the mother going to jail on charges of child endangerment, robbery, biting the hand of an officer, and resisting arrest. The baby, who officers learned was about two weeks old, was taken to a local hospital then transferred to a Houston hospital to be treated for hypothermia and what was described as a state of hunger. The mother, 24 year old Vanessa Morgan of Bryan, remains jailed as of May 22nd in lieu of bonds totaling $64,000 dollars.
