Two House Fires Friday in the Brazos Valley

A house fire in Robertson County before sunrise Friday morning left one person dead. Sheriff Gerald Yezak says there will be an autopsy in Austin of the elderly victim, who has not been identified. A passing motorist reported the fire shortly before 3:30 a.m. Friday. Volunteer firefighters from Calvert and Bremond responded to the fire, located about three miles east of Calvert on FM 979.

A house fire between College Station and Millican on Friday resulted in no injuries but left the family without their home. The chief of the South Brazos County volunteer fire department, Chet Barker, says the fire started in a refrigerator located in the home’s garage. Barker says 30 to 40 percent of the home sustained fire damage, and the rest of the structure had smoke damage. Barker says the South Brazos VFD responded with four units and were assisted by a pumper and ambulance from the College Station fire department. The home is located on River Place Drive, which is west of FM 2154 off Koppe Bridge Road near the Brazos River.
