Two Crashes Ring Out 2017 And Ring In 2018 In Bryan

75 minutes before the end of 2017, Bryan police responded to a hit and run crash on Finfeather near Cottage Grove.

A witness reported a pickup left the roadway and struck a BTU concrete power pole, then the driver fled the scene on foot.

Officers who went to a nearby mobile home park found a man matching the description given by the witness. According to the arrest report, breath tests indicated a alcohol level of .16 and .15.

That led to the arrest of 30 year old Marvin Cortez-Torres for DWI and failing to stop and leave information at a collision. According to online jail records, Torres is also being held for immigration authorities.

Finfeather was blocked for three hours to secure the pole and remove the truck. BTU estimated damage to the concrete power pole at $30,000 dollars.

An hour into 2018, Bryan police responded to a two vehicle crash and fire that resulted in minor injuries and damaged a telephone pole.

BPD reported at Texas and 23rd, a SUV ran a red light and struck a van. The SUV rolled, came to rest on its passenger side, and caught fire. Officers extinguished the fire, and those who were injured did not require medical treatment.

The driver of the SUV was ticketed for failing to control speed and disregarding a red signal. The BPD news release stated other contributing factors that may have caused the collision are under investigation.
