Portions of two major College Station streets will be closed for repairs.
The TxDOT Bryan district office reports Holleman east of Texas will be closed Sunday night through Tuesday due to concrete repairs on Texas.
The city of College Station reports Longmire north of Airline Drive will be closed all next week due to repairing a collapsed culvert.
Brazos County commissioners move another $1.5 million dollars in federal pandemic grant money to the construction of the medical examiner’s office. There was no public discussion before Tuesday’s (August 13) unanimous vote to increase the amount of money county received from ARPA…the american rescue plan act…to $21 million dollars. After the vote, commissioners were asked by a citizen why $1 million was transferred from what was originally set aside for broadband expansion in rural areas. County judge Duane Peters said after the original decision was made to reserve grant money for broadband, the federal government issued rules that said ARPA funds could not be used on something where another federal funding source was available. In the case of broadband, the commission’s general counsel, Bruce Erratt, said the state received federal money that is being given to broadband providers to expand service in rural areas. Commissioners Chuck Konderla, Wanda Watson, and Steve Aldrich also spoke about efforts by the state’s broadband commission. Brazos County commissioners give a shoutout to 4-H members at the end of Tuesday’s meeting. The complements were associated with the commissioners attending last Sunday’s 4-H achievement banquet. This Saturday is the annual opportunity for young people to learn more about Brazos County’s nearly 20 4-H clubs. Members of the Texas A&M faculty senate get an update on the interchange that will be built at George Bush Drive and Wellborn Road. Debbie Albert at the Texas A&M Transportation Institute (TTI) says faculty input can make the construction process less messy. Faculty members are asked to participate in a survey. Albert says out of 3,000 responses, very few have come from faculty members. Click HERE to be directed to the survey website. Albert says the current timetable calls for construction to start as soon as the spring of 2026. Albert says the current design is a deeper version of what is at Wellborn and Old Main. Traffic on George Bush is currently designed to go 35 feet below Wellborn and the railroad. In between, will be a pedestrian path. Over 300,000 cubic yards of dirt will be removed. And the project design includes a pump station and a detention pond at the former site of a McDonald’s to remove and store storm water during rain events.
