Two state lawmakers from the Brazos Valley have introduced bills sought by the governor for action during the special session.
Representative Paul Dyson of Bryan wants to end state money being spent on lobbying lawmakers or any state agency. House Bill 123 would apply not only to lobbying efforts by elected and appointed governmental bodies, but to any private entity that receives state money. The ban covers associations or other entities that are hired to affect the outcome of legislation, agency rules, ordinances, or other government policies.

Representative Stan Gerdes, whose district includes Burleson and Milam counties, filed House Bill 89, which would further restrict the ability of city councils and county governments to raise revenue without holding an election.

Gerdes also filed House Bill 120, which would take some of the federal money the state expects to receive for reimbursing costs for border protection and apply that to reducing school district property tax rates.

As of the first day of the special session, no bills were filed by Brazos Valley state senators Charles Schwertner and Lois Kolkhorst and representatives Trey Wharton and Angelia Orr.
