Two arrests come from the discovery of marijuana in two homes.
Brazos County Sheriff Chris Kirk says a person reporting a strange smell coming from a home at 5983 Old Spanish Trail in Benchley, north of Bryan.
Deputies armed with a search warrant went to the home Sunday and discovered the interior was converted to growing marijuana.
Kirk says the main grow was encased in a sophisticated enclosure with grow lights, ventilation and water. The remainder of the plants were in a closet and a makeshift plastic enclosure. The main enclosure was vented into the attic. The residence thermostat had been removed from the living room wall, rewired and placed inside the sophisticated enclosure.
Kirk says approximately 40 plants were seized. Six mature plants were producing sizeable buds and the rest were in various growth stages.
From Benchley, investigators went to College Station where more pot was found at 2929 McClaren.
Kirk says information gathered through the Benchley search warrant led to the determining the suspect’s actual living quarters in College Station. One suspect gave consent to search and an additional search warrant was obtained and executed at 2929 McClaren in College Station. Deputies found more marijuana and numerous items of paraphernalia.
Taken to jail were 21 year old Brooks Winfield and 24 year old Phillip Tello. Both men were released after posting bond.
