Two Arrested Following Robberies & Chase

Two men were arrested early Thursday morning following a pair of armed robberies in residential neighborhoods west of downtown Bryan.

The arrests followed a high speed chase that ended in Kurten, involving ground and aerial pursuit.

29 year old Deandre Lavan Phillips of Bryan and 26 year old Katrell Dewyan Lindsey of Brenham were caught in the area of FM 2038 and Business 21.

Neither of the victims were injured. A man who was held up in the 600 block of Commerce reported money and personal items were taken. Then a woman reported she was held up in the 900 block of Clearleaf. She told the suspects she had nothing with her, and they left.

A news release does not indicate if the suspects and victims knew each other of if there’s any other associations with the robberies.

On June 26, 2014 at 12:15 a.m. officers responded to the 600 block of Commerce for an Aggravated Robbery that had just occurred. The victim, a 25 year old male, was standing outside of a residence when two males in a vehicle drove up and asked for directions. When the victim approached the vehicle the two occupants got out and one brandished a firearm. They demanded money and personal items then fled in the vehicle towards Beck St. The victim was not injured.

As Officers were approaching the area another Aggravated Robbery occurred at 920 Clearleaf at 12:24am. The victim, a 27 year old female, had stopped near the office when she was approached by two males in a similar vehicle. The two occupants brandished a firearm and demanded personal items and money. The victim claimed she had nothing with her and the suspects fled in the vehicle. The victim was not injured.

As the vehicle fled onto Beck street Officers who were responding to the first call observed the vehicle matching the description and initiated a traffic stop. At this time the vehicle led officers on a pursuit which led officers down the following roadways:

Palasota – northbound
28th street – Westbound
Hwy 21 – Eastbound
N. Earl Rudder Frwy feeder – Northbound
FM 974 – Eastbound
FM 2038 – Southbound

The pursuit reached speeds up to 95 mph with little to no traffic on the roadway. Spike strips were deployed just before Business 21 which was effective and flatted the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle went a short distance later and stopped. The driver, Katrell Lindsey, was immediately apprehended while the passenger fled on foot into a nearby pasture. There were no houses in this area and a perimeter was quickly set up with the assistance of DPS and Brazos County Sheriff’s Office. A DPS helicopter responded to the scene to assist in the search.
