TEXAS CITY, Texas (AP) _ Twin nine-year-old sisters are dead and their father reportedly was hospitalized in critical condition after a current swept the girls away as they swam in Galveston Bay.
The U.S. Coast Guard says the family reported the three missing just before 10 a.m. Sunday after the girls were swept away and the father also was swept away while attempting a rescue. An aerial and surface search located the father and one daughter. Coast Guard Petty Officer Richard Brahm says the other girl’s body washed ashore by the Texas City Dike around nightfall.
The girls had been swimming at the breakwater when the accident happened.
Brahm says he had no identities nor a report on the father’s condition, but news reports quoted family members as saying he was hospitalized in critical condition.
