Twin City Toucans Suffer First Loss of the Season

News release from Twin City Toucans FC:

Bryan-College Station, TX – May 29, 2024 – Twin City Toucans FC fell in defeat for the first time in the 2024 USL2 season, losing 3-0 against Corpus Christi FC in front of a rowdy crowd on Bryan Youth Soccer Night.

The first half was full of aggressive play, which saw Giancarlo Pretto and Isaak Torossian each pick up yellow cards. In addition, Vilius Labutis picked up a red card midway through the first half, which ended his evening early and left the Toucans down to 10 men. Later on in the play, Toucans head coach Steo Cummins also received a red card and was removed from the match.

The score was still tied at 0-0 after the opening half of play, but it was Corpus Christi FC who came out firing on all cylinders in the second half, as Jacobo Sanfeliu and Igancio Abeal both found the back of the net in the opening 20 minutes of the second half to put Corpus up 2-0.

Later in the half for Corpus, it was Cristobal Porter who found the back post on an excellent strike to put Corpus Christi FC up 3-0 to add some insurance.

The Toucans did have an offensive push late in the half with Rhys Shirley leading the charge and eventually scoring in three straight matches, but the goal was called back due to an offside and the score remained 3-0, which would end up being the final result.

The Toucans travel south to take on Corpus Christi FC again on Saturday, June 1st in another important matchup in the Lone Star Division. The Toucans return home on Tuesday, June 4th to take on AHFC Royals at Edible Field.
