Tuition Increases Proposed at A&M

Texas A&M University President Bowen Loftin Wednesday recommended a series of tuition increases over the next two years.

According to figures supplied by Dr. Loftin, the increase per semester in FY 2013 would be $176.55 and the increase in FY 2014 per semester would be $183.45.

For FY 2013, Dr. Loftin recommended increasing designated tuition 3.95 percent. That revenue would be reserved for merit pay increases for faculty and staff.

In FY 2014, Dr. Loftin recommended a cap of 3.95 percent on designated tuition and mandatory fees.

Also proposed is establishing a differential tuition rate for the College of Education and Human Development. Full time students would pay an additional $300 per semester and part time students an additional $20 per credit hour.  If that is adopted, the current teacher education fee of $200 would be eliminated.

There is also a revised proposal for differential tuition in A&M’s Distance Education program.  If adopted, here would be one rate to reflect the costs of delivering graduate courses and other rate for undergraduate courses. The rates must fall within the current Board of Regents approved range of $40 to $508 dollars per credit hour.
