Tuesday Afternoon Wildfire Update

The Grimes County Sheriff’s Office reports on their Facebook page the fire in the Todd Mission area remains active. The fire has not traveled further north since the last update. The fire is now shifting east due to a change in wind direction. Firefighting personnel are continuing their efforts to hold the boundaries and contain the burned areas. In Grimes County, the evacuation zone was expanded to include the Foxfire subdivision…again that’s in Grimes County…to CR 351 east of FM 1774. The Department of Public Safety this afternoon banned all non-response helicopters from flying over the wildfires in Grimes, Montgomery, and Waller counties.

The Leon County Emergency Management Office has posted an updated evacuation list. Officials are asking evacuees to go to First Baptist Church in Centerville. According to the Leon County EMC Facebook page, mandatory evacuations are in place for the following roads:

County Road 440
County Road 491
County Road 492
County Road 493
County Road 495
County Road 496
West Side of FM 39 S from Hwy 7 W to County Road 441 (441 not evacuated)
FM 1147

If you’re wanting to drop off relief supplies for firefighters in Leon County, the closest location for those living in Bryan/College Station is in Normangee at Becky’s Cottage. A supply list is on the Leon County emergency management facebook page.

To assist firefighters in Grimes County, donations can be dropped off at Todd Mission City Hall or Magnolia West High School. Bottled water is being accepted. Monitor the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page for further details.
