Funeral services were held Friday for longtime local philanthropist Emil Ogden, who died Monday at age 89.

Ogden operated a successful oil exploration business and moved to Bryan in 1979.

He was instrumental in developing the Bryan Woodbine Field, one of the most significant oil discoveries in Texas during the 1980’s.

State representative Kyle Kacal of College Station paused during his Friday visit on WTAW’s The Infomaniacs to extend his prayers and thoughts to the Ogden family.

Brazos County sheriff Chris Kirk issued a news release thanking Mr. Ogden for serving 23 years as a reserve deputy and completing 3,885 hours of law enforcement training, often at his own expense.
