Transition Underway For Bryan’s Village Foods

Life is coming full circle for the owner of what will soon be Bryan/College Station’s last locally owned full service grocery store.

In a previous life, Jim Lewis closed a store for Costco in Florida at the same time he was opening a new location. Now, he’s moving and downsizing Village Foods to make room for an Aldi’s later this year.

In the two weeks since Lewis made the announcement to his employees, which included layoffs in order to avoid $40,000 dollars in fines associated with Obamacare, part of his time has been spent pitching his people to potential employers.

Lewis is taking his pharmacy and his natural foods and beauty products to a strip center he owns at 29th and Broadmoor.

The new store opens by February 1 and the old store closes by February 6.
