Transition Continues at City Operated Bryan Animal Center

Taking most of the time at Tuesday’s Bryan City Council meeting was switching a representative on the animal shelter advisory committee.

Deputy City Manager Hugh Walker says state law required removing former Brazos Animal Shelter director Melissa Ball, because she filled a position requiring someone involved in the daily operation of the facility.

Hugh Walker comments on the composition of the animal shelter board, some mandated by state law.

Mayor Jason Bienski says Ball could be appointed to an at-large position when a vacancy becomes available. Two at-large positions on the Bryan shelter board are open at the end of this year.

Mayor Jason Bienski comments on Ball being considered for possible re-appointment to the shelter board.

The council, minus Ann Horton and Mike Southerland who were absent, unanimously voted to replace Ball with Cody Cravitt.

Walker says Cravitt, one of the city’s new hires, became interim manager after the person chosen to run the shelter lasted three weeks.

Walker comments on current management of Bryan’s city-operated animal shelter.
