Train Hits Semi-Trailer West of Hearne

Traffic west of Hearne was blocked for about six hours Thursday after a semi-trailer was struck by a train.

Trooper Jimmy Morgan said the trucker was third in line crossing tracks on FM 45 near FM 1644 and decided at the last minute to stop. Morgan says the momentum of the semi and brake failure resulted in the train striking the rock trailer.

The driver of the semi, 41 year old Nat Gonzales of Bryan, was treated at the scene while the Union Pacific train conductor, whose name was not available, was driven by private vehicle to an emergency room.

Morgan says the crossing has warning lights but no crossbars.
