Traffic Related Arrests Include Hitting An Apartment & An Officer Pulling A Driver Out Of The Car

For the second time in a week, a local apartment has been damaged by a suspected drunk driver. Bryan police were sent to the Woodland Heights apartments on Wayside Drive last Thursday after one of two trucks that were reported driving recklessly struck the back wall of the building before coming to a stop after hitting a tree. Damage to the structure and several air conditioning units was estimated at $10,000 dollars. 21 year old Guillermo Lopez of College Station is out of jail after posting bond following his arrest for DWI.

Bryan police at the scene of a crash last Thursday night on the freeway north of the Boonville Road exit report a dually pulling a trailer nearly hit a wrecker. That led to a drunk driving arrest of 24 year old Marcelino Contreras of Gause.

Bryan police stopped a woman driving through the parking lot of a restaurant last Thursday to avoid a red light. That led to the arrest of 44 year old Melissa Martin of Bryan for driving with an invalid license with a previous conviction. According to her arrest report, Martin has 20 current suspensions.

Texas A&M police is cracking down on wrong way drivers in a construction zone. Last Thursday afternoon in the area of Ross and Bizzell, a UPD officer wound up taking one driver to jail not only for going the wrong way but interfering with public duties and resisting arrest. According to the arrest report, the officer told the driver four times to put the car in park and get out. The driver told the officer to give her the ticket so she could go, then said she didn’t have to get out. That resulted in the officer grabbing the driver’s left hand and the back of her neck…and according to the arrest report the driver was guided out of her car onto the ground in one quick motion and was placed in handcuffs. 22 year old Chelsea Jennings, who just completed her senior season on the Aggies women’s basketball team, is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $6,400 dollars.
