Tornadoes Through The Brazos Valley And Some Rainfall Totals For The First Week Of May

The National Weather Service office in Fort Worth confirms four tornadoes from a storm system that went through the Brazos Valley on Tuesday (May 6).

The first touchdown was in Milam County, an EF zero with maximum winds of 85 miles per hour.

The next touchdown was near Franklin, another EF zero with maximum winds of 80 miles per hour.

The third touchdown was in the Jewett area, an EF one tornado with maximum winds of 105 miles per hour. The Leon County emergency management office Facebook page reported during that storm, a worker slipped down an embankment on Highway seven west of Marquez into the Navasota River but was rescued.

And the weather service determined the final tornado touched down in Anderson County near Frankston. The EF zero tornado had maximum wind speeds of 85 miles per hour.

WTAW listeners texting 979-695-1620 reported the following rainfall totals for the first week of May;

    • at least 12 inches off Highway 30 east of Bryan/College Station
    • 11.56 inches in the Steep Hollow area east of Bryan
    • 11.5 inches in the Carter’s Crossing neighborhood in south College Station
    • 11.25 inches in the Raintree neighborhood in College Station
    • 10 plus inches in College Station in the area of Southwest Parkway & Welsh
    • 7.08 inches east of Caldwell in the New Tabor community
    • 6.4 inches at two locations in Grimes County, one north of Anderson and in the Cross community
    • 4.95 inches in Bryan’s historic eastside district

And the official rain gauge at Easterwood Airport totaled 8.29 inches
