HOUSTON (AP) _ Houston Mayor Bill White says he is considering running for Texas governor, now that Democrat Tom Schieffer has decided to drop out of the race.
White, who was already running for the U.S. Senate seat that Kay Bailey Hutchison was expected to vacate before the end of the year, says he’ll make his final decision by December 4th. Hutchison is challenging Gov. Rick Perry for the Republican nomination in the March Texas primary.
White also criticized Perry, saying “many of us are disappointed with his performance. There’s been a failure to make real, tangible significant progress.”
The shakeup in the governor’s race began Nov. 13. when Hutchison announced she would remain in the Senate until after the primary, weeks after the filing deadline for Senate candidates.
