The College Station and Bryan fire departments were among those responding to an automatic alarm during Thursday morning’s commute at the home of the Texas A&M corps of cadets Parsons Mounted Cavalry. According to an A&M spokesman, the source of the alarm was a closed metal container inside the building that was generating smoke. College Station firefighters took outside the building what they said was a pail of oily rags that spontaneously combusted. The A&M spokesman says water from a garden hose was used to extinguish the container. No humans or horses were injured, and there was no damage to the building at Fiddler’s Green.
Eight cars at a Bryan towing lot were damaged or destroyed by a fire on Wednesday. Bryan fire chief Randy McGregor says the fire appears to have started from an electrical issue in one of the cars. The fire spread due to the cars being parked in close proximity. More than 2,000 gallons of water was used to extinguish the fire. No injuries were reported from the fire at Ronnie’s Towing on Clarks Lane.
Wednesday night, College Station firefighters responded to an apartment cooking fire north of the Northgate district. CSFD reported the resident at the Villas of Cherry Hollow complex near Tauber and Stasney put out the fire using a dry chemical extinguisher. Firefighters used their fans to remove smoke from the apartment.
And on Thursday morning, College Station firefighters went to Kinder Care Learning Center on Balcones to deal with an issue with electrical equipment that required the assistance of College Station Utilities.
