Bryan-College Station, TX (October 28, 2015) – After a historic season in which the Brazos Valley Bombers finished with the best winning percentage in TCL history, Head Coach Curt Dixon and Assistant Coaches Clay Cox and Tyler Gillum are returning to the Brazos Valley to ensure the Bombers remain the gold standard in the TCL.
The Bombers finished 2015 with a 42-9 record in the regular season, and 45-9 following the TCL Playoffs. The Bombers have now won nine consecutive half-season championships and three consecutive TCL titles.
The historic season was reflected in the final CSB Rankings for 2015, as the Bombers finished No. 3 overall out of approximately 400 teams across the country.
Curt Dixon returns as the head man for the Bombers for his fifth season with the club, looking to add to an already impressive list of accomplishments with the navy blue and gold. Arguably the greatest coach in TCL history, the Bombers have reached new levels of success under the watch of Coach Dixon and since his first season in 2012, the Bombers have won four consecutive regular season championships, a league-record three consecutive TCL championships, and a national championship in 2013.
Dixon has been named TCL Coach of the Year for four consecutive years and is the winningest head coach in franchise history with a record of 180-61. He has guided the Bombers to the franchise record for single-season wins, and TCL records for first-half wins, second-half wins, and single-season wins.
Coach Dixon works closely with the Bombers pitching staff, and on the mound in 2015 the Bombers finished with league-bests in earned run average, batting average against and shutouts. At the same time the Bombers gave up the least amount of home runs, hits, runs, earned runs, and walks under the instruction of Dixon.
In the years that Dixon has held the position of head coach, Bombers pitchers allowed the least amount of runs in the TCL and had the lowest staff ERA in the league.
Overall he has coached 41 TCL All-Stars, 32 prospects that were featured in Perfect Game’s annual Top 20 TCL Prospects list and 17 prospects featured in Baseball America’s annual Top 10 TCL Prospects list.
Clay Cox is an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Paris Junior College and will be entering his third season with the Bombers in 2016 as the first base coach.
On the other side of the diamond, Tyler Gillum will again be the Bombers’ third base coach and hitting instructor in 2016, his third with the organization. Gillum has also coached four seasons at Stone Mountain Community College where he serves as the recruiting coordinator and infield coach.
Cox and Gillum guided the Bombers to league-best totals in runs scored, doubles, runs batted in, stolen bases, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, batting average, and OPS in 2015. The duo has also led the Bombers to finish with the highest fielding percentage in the TCL each of the past two seasons.
The coaching staff looks to push the envelope once again in 2016, and continue to help create memories of a lifetime for Bombers fans all summer long.
