Three DWI Arrests Follows Witness Reports In Two Cases And A Third Where A Brazos County Sheriff’s Patrol Car Was Almost Struck

Bryan police responded Friday just after two a.m. to motorist reports of a pickup driving south in the northbound lanes of the freeway. After going more than 11 miles, the truck stopped before it struck College Station police and Brazos County sheriff’s vehicles that blocked the freeway near Southwest Parkway. The driver, 20 year old Ruben Martinez Balderas of Bryan, told officers according to the arrest report that he had drank eight beers without eating anything. Balderas was arrested for DWI after officers determined his breath alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit at .183 and .180. Balderas remained in jail Friday afternoon in lieu of a $2,000 dollar bond.

College Station police and fire responded Thursday just after 11 p.m. to a crash at University and Texas, where a car caught fire after striking a utility pole. According to a CSPD arrest report, multiple people told 9-1-1 dispatchers of a car on University leaving the Northgate district at a high rate of speed and swerving before the crash. The driver, 39 year old Vihn Le of Houston, who was arrested for DWI, remained in jail Friday afternoon in lieu of a $2,000 dollar bond. At the time of the DWI arrest, he was out on bond following a March 26 arrest by Bryan police where he is awaiting trial on a misdemeanor charge of unlawful carrying of a weapon.

A Caldwell man convicted twice of drunk driving in Brazos County was arrested on suspicion of a third DWI during the Memorial Day weekend. A Brazos County sheriff’s deputy reported a Jeep on Boonville Road in Bryan suddenly switched lanes without signaling, almost striking the deputy’s patrol car. After the Jeep pulled into a parking lot, the driver told the deputy according to the arrest report that he had drank ten beers during a four hour span at a friend’s house. 48 year old James Brunson Jr., who was also arrested for unlawful carrying of a weapon, is out of jail after posting bonds totaling $13,000 dollars.
