Three Aggies Make Opening Day

Three former Texas A&M standouts are on WNBA rosters for tonight’s opening games, with Danielle Adams (San Antonio), Kelsey Bone (Connecticut) and Sydney Colson (San Antonio) all on WNBA rosters for 2015.

Adams returns to for her fifth season with the San Antonio Stars after averaging 10.9 points in 2014. Adams, who was named Most Outstanding Player of the 2011 Women’s Final Four, will look for her second WNBA All-Star Appearance this season, previously selected for the team in 2011.

Adams is joined on the Stars by Sydney Colson, a former All-American point guard for the Aggies. Colson has not played in the league since appearing in 16 games for New York during the 2011 season. The Stars open their season at 9 p.m. at Phoenix, with coverage of the game available on Fox Sports Arizona Plus to subscribers of the network.

Bone, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2013 WNBA Draft, averaged 9.3 points in 2014 and returns for her third season in the league and second with Connecticut. Bone was an All-American for the Aggies in 2012-13, and was named MVP of the 2013 SEC Tournament. Connecticut opens the season by hosting Washington at 6 p.m.

Aggie fans will want to mark their calendars for September 4, as Connecticut visits San Antonio at 7 p.m., marking the Sun’s only visit to Texas this year, and one of two matchups featuring Aggies on both benches (also: Aug. 4 in Connecticut).

In addition, Kelly Krauskopf, who played basketball at A&M from 1980-83, returns as president and general manager of the Indiana Fever. She has been the team’s top executive since its founding in 1999 and its general manager since 2004.

A&M’s three former players on active WNBA rosters ranks third among SEC schools, trailing just Tennessee (5) and LSU (4).
