COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Three former Texas A&M Aggies are preparing to enter the MLB Postseason after completing successful 2015 regular-season campaigns.
The trio includes starting pitcher Michael Wacha of the NL Central champion St. Louis Cardinals, outfielder Justin Ruggiano of the NL West champion Los Angeles Dodgers and infielder Cliff Pennington of the AL East champion Toronto Blue Jays.
Wacha, the 2012 NLCS Most Valuable Player, posted a 17-7 record with a 3.38 ERA and 153 strikeouts over 181.1 innings of work this season. The right-hander held opponents to a .236 batting average in 30 starts. He ranked ninth in the NL in victories (17) and eighth in winning percentage (.708). He was named to the NL squad for the 2015 All-Star Game.
The Blue Jays acquired Pennington from the Arizona Diamondbacks on August 8. He appeared in 33 games in Toronto’s pennant race, hitting .160 with three doubles, two home runs and 11 RBI in 75 at-bats.
The Dodgers acquired Ruggiano from the Seattle Mariners on August 31. He appeared in 21 games in September, posting a .291 batting average with four doubles, one triple, four home runs and 12 RBI.
The Cardinals open up postseason play on October 9 when they host either the Chicago Cubs or Pittsburgh Pirates in a National League Division Series. The Dodgers also open up NLDS action on October 9, hosting the New York Mets. The Toronto Blue Jays start their American League Division Series on October 8 when they host the Texas Rangers.
