The College Station city council at its last meeting received an update on simultaneous projects taking place in and around Thomas Park, which is located about three blocks behind city hall.

Public works is in the process of supervising the replacement of asphalt streets with concrete streets and drainage along James and Puryear south of Francis, which border Thomas Park. There is money in the fiscal year 2021 budget to design that work.

There is also money in the College Station’s fiscal year 2021 budget to design phase two improvements at Thomas Park, as described by interim parks director Kelly Kelbly.

Phase two is improvements and sidewalks at Thomas Park. Phase three includes shade structures and expanded play areas. And phase four is a new pool.

Three public speakers who called on the council to identify the location of the new Thomas Park pool included Diane Davis, who has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years and represents a coalition of 872 supporters.

Councilman John Crompton led the governing body’s unanimous support to include the location of the new pool in the design of the second phase.
