For the third time this year and the second time in as many months, there has been a drowning at Lake Somerville.
The Burleson County sheriff’s office reports 27 year old Douglas Portillo-Funes of Honduras went missing Sunday evening near Welch Park.
The initial search lasted three hours before being suspended due to approaching storms.
State game wardens found the victim two hours after the search resumed Monday morning.

On Sunday, August 16, 2020 at approximately 8:50 P.M. the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a missing swimmer in the water near Welch Park.
The Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Parks and Wildlife, Park Rangers and the Somerville Volunteer Fire Department responded to assist in locating the swimmer.
Witnesses advised a Hispanic male, 27 years of age, was swimming in Welch Park with family when he was seen going under water and did not resurface.
A Texas Parks and Wildlife boat was used to attempt to locate the missing swimmer but the search was suspended at midnight due to approaching storms.
The search was resumed at 8:30 A.M and lasted until 10:35 A.M. when Game Wardens recovered the body of Douglas Portillo-Funes.
The body will be sent to the Travis County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
