COLLEGE STATION—The Texas A&M women’s athletics teams finished the 2013-14 school year 5th in the Capital One Cup with 89 points highlighted by the women’s outdoor track and field national championship.
“Congratulations to our women’s athletics programs on an outstanding year,” Aggie Director of Athletics Eric Hyman said. “To have six of our teams finish in the Top 10 is remarkable. In addition to great performances on the various fields of competition, our young women have demonstrated great success in the classrooms as well as volunteering their time in helping our community. I could not be more proud.”
The Capital One Cup competition is an NCAA athletics award that honors the top men’s and women’s college athletics program in the country and rewards the winning schools a combined $400,000 in scholarship funds to their athletics department. Each winning school will formally be honored at the ESPY Awards Show in July.
The Aggies earned 89 points toward the Capital One Cup due to their recent national championship in outdoor track and field and top-10 finishes in basketball, golf, indoor track and field, soccer, swimming & diving and tennis.
Texas A&M women finished 12th in the Capital One Cup in 2012-13.
Schools earn points based on their teams’ top 10 finishes in NCAA Division I championships and in final official coaches’ polls across 20 women’s and 19 men’s sports.
The Capital One Cup men’s winning athletics program will be announced after the conclusion of the NCAA College World Series. Texas A&M is currently in 26th in the men’s standings as of June 20.
