Texas Tribune CEO Questions Local Lawmakers at A&M

A standing room only audience watched Texas Tribune CEO and Editor in Chief Evan Smith quiz Brazos County members of the state legislature.

The 60 minute conversation with Senator Charles Schwertner and Representatives John Raney and Kyle Kacal took place Thursday at the A&M Memorial Student Center Robert Gates ballroom.

Questions from Smith and members of the audience touched a wide variety of topics facing state lawmakers when the 84th session starts next January.

Topics included financing public schools and higher education, health care, immigration, attracting Hispanics to the Republican Party, predatory lending, e-cigarettes, the death penalty, revising the state’s tax policy, the state’s open records laws, and women’s issues.
