Texas A&M Track & Field Student-Athletes Honored

COLLEGE STATION— The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic honors for the outdoor season for student-athletes who qualified for the NCAA Championships (including preliminaries) and posted a 3.25 grade-point or better in the classroom.
The Texas A&M track and field program, under the guidance of head coach Pat Henry, has enjoyed unbelievable success in athletic competition including eight NCAA National Championships for Texas A&M. This past season marked the 10th straight year for the women to place in the NCAA Top 5 and for the third time in the past five years, the men’s team placed third or better in the NCAA Championships. The track and field teams continue to get the job done in the classroom as well as 11 female Aggies earned All-Academic honors and three male competitors earned distinction.
Aggie javelin thrower Maggie Malone, a senior from Geneva, Nebraska, will compete in the Rio Olympics in August. She won the javelin competition at the USA Olympic trials and also took care of business in the classroom earning All-Academic honors by the USTFCCCA.
Karis Jochen, a junior from College Station who attended A&M Consolidated High School, earned honors from the USTFCCCA as well as second-team Academic All-America honors in Division I women’s track and field/cross country team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Jochen is pursuing a degree in business honors at Texas A&M with a grade-point of better than 3.90.
In cross country this past season, Jochen claimed All-America honors with a top 40 finish in the NCAA Championships and was named the SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. During the track and field season Jochen scored team points in two events during the SEC Outdoor Championships. In the 10,000m she placed fifth and then she finished eighth in the 5,000m. She competed in the NCAA West Regional Championships in the 10,000m.
