COLLEGE STATION – The Texas A&M women’s golf team was selected to compete at the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Golf West Regional where it will compete for a berth in the NCAA Championship, the NCAA announce Monday evening.
Regional play will be conducted May 8-10 at three regional sites. The West Regional will be played at the Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort in Cle Elum, Washington hosted by the University of Washington.
“We are beyond excited to be headed to the West Regional,” Texas A&M women’s golf head coach Trelle McCombs said. “The last time we were in the Seattle area we had good results. Katerina Ruzickova birdied her 53rd hole that gave us the final NCAA Championship spot by one stroke. We are also the 12th seed which if you are a Texas Aggie is a good sign. I like where we are and our chance going forward.”
The top eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional to the NCAA Championship held May 20-23 at the Tulsa Country Club in Tulsa, Okla., hosted by the University of Tulsa. The 2014 championship will be the second for Tulsa Country Club, Duke claimed the 1999 National Championship in Tulsa.
The Aggies were one of 24 teams selected for the West Regional and were seeded 12th behind Southern Cal, Arizona State, Oklahoma, Washington, Clemson, Wake Forest, Northwestern, Michigan State, Iowa State, GRU Augusta and Oregon. The field also includes UC Davis, Denver, San Diego State, Wisconsin, Gonzaga, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Chattanooga, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Portland State and Detroit.
Additionally, the six individuals sent to Washington are Alison Knowles of Univ. of Louisiana – Monroe, Regan De Guzman of San Jose State, Clariss Guce of Cal. State Northridge, Fabiola Arriaga of UTSA, Madchen Ly of Fresno State and Alexandra White of BYU.
