Record-breaking streak

·         The Texas A&M men’s swimming and diving team is one of just a handful of teams in the nation that finished in top 25 at the NCAA Championships every season since 1996. The other teams are: Arizona, Arizona State, Auburn, California, Georgia, Michigan, Minnesota, Stanford, Tennessee and Texas.

·         The Aggie men’s streak of 18 straight top 25 NCAA finishes is an all-sport record at Texas A&M.

Record-setters to NCAAs

·         Eight of the nine swimmers representing Texas A&M at the NCAA Championships set individual school records or swam a leg on a record-setting relay in 2013-14.

·         Leading the way is senior Simon Frank, who broke the school records for the 200 IM (1:45.39), the 400 IM (3:44.33) and the 200 back (1:43.66) at the 2014 SEC Championships.

·         Senior Kyle Troskot is the fastest Aggie in school history with a 19.32 clocking in the 50 free from the American Short Course Championships.

·         Senior Paul-Marc Schweitzer set the school record in the 200 free with a blistering leadoff leg of 1:34.39 on the Aggies’ record-setting 800 free relay at the 2014 SECs. Schweitzer and relay mates Luke Shaw, Mateo Muzek and Hunter Funk went on to set the school standard of 6:21.20.

·         A highlight of the 2014 SEC meet was the long-awaited breaking of the 200 free relay record, which had stood since 2001 and was the lone school record from the pre-Jay Holmes era. The foursome of Troskot, Henrik Lindau, Cory Bolleter and Schweitzer touched in a time of 1:17.32.

About the Coaching Staff

·         Texas A&M head swimming coach Jay Holmes is in his 10th season as head coach of the Aggies and his 28th season at Texas. He served as assistant coach for 18 seasons before being named head coach on July 14, 2004.

·         He is a two-time coach of the year, taking Big 12 Coach of the Year honors in 2004-05 and being named Big 12 Coach of the Meet in 2012.

·         Associate head swim coach Ryan Mallam is in his first season with the Aggies. Mallam, a four-year swimming letterman at the University of South Carolina, spent the previous four seasons – three as head coach and one as assistant coach —  at Indian River State College (Fla.), and the Pioneers swept the NJCAA men’s and women’s national titles each year.

·         Former U.S. Olympic diving coach Jay Lerew is in his fifth year of directing Texas A&M’s diving program. During Lerew’s time with the Aggies, A&M has produced its first NCAA Champion (Jaele Patrick in the women’s 3m dive in 2012) and multiple conference individual champions and All-Americans. He also earned Big 12 Dive Coach of the Meet or Year six times.
