Texas A&M Responds to Florida Shooting Reaction

Texas A&M took to Twitter on Tuesday to address reaction to the Parkland, Florida high school shooting two weeks ago.

Amy Smith, Senior Vice President Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, said the tweet is in response to a national discussion.

“With regard to high schoolers being concerned that if they are disciplined in high school for speaking out about Parkland or any other issues, that it will affect their admissions,” said Smith.

Smith said they have always looked at people who are living and demonstrating the core values, which includes civic engagement.

“At times, applicants are going to have a right to state how they feel on certain subjects and that is not going to affect the admissions process,” said Smith.

Smith said what could affect the admissions process is if a student breaks the law.
