Texas A&M Researcher Receives Grant from Department of Defense

A researcher at the Texas A&M College of Medicine recently received a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense and Department of Army to study the mechanisms of traumatic brain injury, or TBI, a leading cause of disability among service members and veterans.

Samba Reddy, PhD, RPh, said TBI can lead to recurrent seizures, called post traumatic epilepsy.

Reddy said these seizures can be difficult to treat with medicine because TBI is caused by physical trauma to the brain.

The three-year grant, totaling nearly $750,000, was awarded to Reddy to identify the link between brain injury and the subsequent development of epilepsy.
