Former Major League pitcher and Texas Rangers Hall of Famer John Wetteland was arrested Monday on a child sex abuse charge in Denton County.
The story was first reported by the Denton-Record Chronicle.
Wetteland, who pitched in the majors for 12 seasons (1989-2000) and was named World Series MVP with the New York Yankees in 1996, has been accused of sexually abusing a child under the age of 14.
The 52-year-old was released from the Denton County jail Monday on $25,000 bond.
Wetteland pitched for the Texas Rangers from 1997-2000 and retired as the franchise’ all-time saves leader with 150. He was inducted into the Rangers’ Hall of Fame in 2005.
