Texas Newspapers Unite in Polling

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ The five largest newspapers in Texas are uniting to conduct political polls for the 2010 elections.

The newspapers announced Wednesday that the surveys will be done for the Austin American-Statesman, The Dallas Morning News, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Houston Chronicle, and San Antonio Express-News. Polling will begin before the March primaries and will focus on the races for governor and other statewide offices.

Blum and Weprin Associates in New York will conduct the polls on candidate matchups, public policy and other political issues. Blum and Weprin Associates have polled Texas political races for several state newspapers in the past.

The surveys will canvass likely voters, using standard methodology, telephone interviews and a sample size that the newspapers said will result in the most accurate results available before the March primary elections.
