IRVING, Texas (AP) _ Retail gasoline price across Texas have dropped 9 cents this week but are about a dollar higher than last year’s Memorial Day holiday weekend.
AAA Texas on Thursday reported the average price per gallon at the pump is $3.72. The average price nationally is also down 9 cents, to $3.81 a gallon.
The state’s least expensive gasoline is in Beaumont, averaging $3.58 a gallon. The most expensive gasoline is in Corpus Christi, at $3.75 a gallon.
AAA spokesman Dan Ronan attributes the decline to crude oil prices dropping this month, along with lower wholesale gasoline prices.
Gasoline prices are still an average $1.04 higher than late May 2010.
The association predicts 2.75 million Texas Memorial Day travelers. Most are expected to travel by automobile.
