A presentation slide shown at Texas A&M Football’s ‘Chalk Talk’ event Wednesday night has spurred some controversy.
The event, which promotes an interactive way for female fans to learn more about the game of football, included over 700 guests and featured several members of the Aggie coaching staff, including head coach Kevin Sumlin.
One staff member speaking to the crowd was new offensive line coach Jim Turner, whose presentation slide struck a nerve with some fans.
The individual who took the picture, Karen Weinberg, says she has been in touch with the Texas A&M Athletic Department:
“I sent a letter to the athletic department yesterday expressing my concerns,” Weinberg said. “While I was certainly offended by some of the comments and slides at Wednesday’s event, I overall enjoyed the event.”
Another attendee, Shayna Stewart, says the slide was all in good fun:
“I just want it to be known that the majority of the ladies there had a wonderful time. I had no idea that anyone was offended. The slide that’s being discussed was a lighthearted joke, and the crowd was rolling in laughter for almost the entire presentation. In my opinion, anyone that was offended needs to lighten up.”
As of Friday afternoon, neither the university nor the athletic department had issued a public statement concerning the slide.
Turner, who coached under Mike Sherman at Texas A&M from 2008-2011, was hired as the Aggies’ offensive line coach in February.
