Texas Dems Fight Green Party Ballot Presence

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) _ Texas Democrats are asking the Texas Supreme Court to dismiss their efforts to keep statewide Green Party candidates off the November ballot.

The Texas Supreme Court ruled last week that the Green Party can put its candidates on the statewide ballot while it considers whether the party took improper donations to fund its petition drive.

However, the Texas Democratic Party filed a motion Wednesday, arguing the case before the justices becomes moot with Green Party candidates on the ballot. The court has asked for a response from the Green Party by Thursday.

The Green Party has maintained the donations were legal, but state Democrats insist they’re not and that they’ll continue their legal effort to determine the source of the funding.
