Texas Company Recalls Pistachios

HOUSTON (AP) _ A Houston fruit and nut company is recalling bags and trays of pistachios over potential contamination with salmonella.

Sunrise Natural Foods said Tuesday its voluntarily recalling plastic bags and plastic trays of Pistachio Natural Salted. The pistachios were distributed in Texas to Fiesta Mart and HEB stores.

Sunrise says a very small amount of its products contain pistachios supplied by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. California-based Setton has recalled all 2008 crop pistachio products shipped to date because they may be contaminated with salmonella.

No illnesses or complaints associated with the Sunrise pistachios have been reported. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections.

The products being recalled are:

_ 3 lb bag of Pistachio Natural Salted, UPC 78056215013 with an enjoy before date of 01/01/2010.

_ 2 lb bag of Pistachio Natural Salted, UPC 78056215034 with an enjoy before date of 01/01/2010.

_ 14 oz bag of Pistachio Natural Salted, UPC 78056215043 with an enjoy before date of 01/01/2010.

_ 11 oz tray of Pistachio Natural Salted, UPC 78056282006 with an enjoy before date of 01/01/2010.
