News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
WACO – Texas A&M Athletics was well-represented on the Class of 2025 ballot for the Texas Sports Hall of Fame (TSHOF), which was announced by the organization on Wednesday.
Among the 28 Hall of Fame hopefuls with ties to Texas A&M Athletics were football standout Richmond Webb, three-time national champion softball coach Bob Brock and longtime volleyball coach Laurie Corbelli.
Webb, who lettered from 1986-89, helped lead the Aggies to Southwest Conference Championships in 1986 and 1987 and to bowl games all four seasons. A 2007 inductee into the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame, Webb was a team captain and earned All-SWC honors as a senior. After the season, Webb received the Aggie Heart Award, which is the highest honor for a football player at Texas A&M. He was a first round NFL Draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 1990 where he protected the blind side of NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino throughout the decade. He was a two-time All-Pro, seven-time Pro Bowl selection and was named to the NFL 1990’s All-Decade Team.
Brock served as Texas A&M’s softball coach from 1982-96 and led the Aggies to national championships in 1982 (AIAW), 1983 (NCAA) and 1987 (NCAA). Already in the Halls of Fame for Texas A&M Athletics, the Southwest Conference and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association, Brock led the Aggies to a 688-255 (.730) record through 15 seasons. His Texas A&M squads earned 10 trips to the NCAA postseason, including five trips to the College World Series. Ten of Brock’s former players are in the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame and pitcher Shawn Andaya-Pulliam is in the TSHOF. Brock finished his head coaching career in an elite group of college coaches with more than 1,000 career victories with a final ledger of 1,126-776-1 in 34 seasons.
Corbelli led the Texas A&M volleyball program for 25 seasons, guiding the Aggies to 20 NCAA Tournament appearances. The Aggies posted a record of 519-252 (.673) under Corbelli and finished in the AVCA Top-25 11 times from 1993-2017. Corbelli guided the Aggies to the SEC Championship in 2015. She was inducted into the American Volleyball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2019. Five of Corbelli’s former players are in the Texas A&M Athletics Hall of Fame, including U.S. Olympian Stacy Sykora who was inducted in the TSHOF in 2022. A standout player, Corbelli helped Texas Lutheran to a pair of AIAW national championships in 1975 and 1976. She was a member of the 1980 and 1984 U.S. Olympic Team, helped the U.S. to a silver medal in 1984 after missing the 1980 Olympiad in Moscow due to the boycott.
Additionally, 2006 Texas A&M graduate Erica Enders is on the ballot as a six-time World Champion in the Pro Stock class of the NHRA World Drag Racing Series.
Official voting will begin on July 16 and end on August 16. The voting ballot will be emailed to TSHOF members, the selection committee and current Hall of Famers whose votes will be tabulated and submitted to Simply Voting. Individuals can cast a vote this year by clicking here and becoming a TSHOF member. Membership starts at $25.
The 2025 Texas Sports Induction Banquet is set to take place in Waco, Texas, on Feb. 15, 2025. The Official 2025 class announcement and ticket sales will be released in the fall of 2024.
