Texas A&M senior Maddie Szeryk earned All-SEC First Team honors for the fourth consecutive season, as the league announced its annual women’s golf yearly awards Thursday. In addition, junior Chloe Velasco was named to the SEC Community Service Team.
Szeryk becomes just the third Texas A&M golfer with four all-conference selections, and the first since Sarah Zwartynski, who earned All-Big 12 honors each year from 2008-11. Szeryk, who ranks 12th nationally with a 71.29 stroke average, has finished in the top 10 in 10 of the 12 tournaments this season, earning individual tournament victories at the Bruzzy Challenge and the Dale McNamara Invitational.
The Allen, Texas native holds the NCAA career record with 87 rounds of par-or-better in her career, and holds the Texas A&M career records for stroke average (71.62), birdies (473) and eagles (9). Her 31 Top 10 tournament finishes are an SEC record, and the fourth-most by a player in NCAA history.
Velasco earned a spot on the SEC Community Service Team for a multitude of community service projects. She has participated in Aggies Read, a student outreach organization that is dedicated to promoting literacy and promoting a lifelong love of reading, Aggies CAN, the largest volunteer student-athlete-run food drive in the nation and Aggies Move, which teaches elementary school students about the importance of eating healthy and exercise.
In addition, she helped build houses as part of Habitat for Humanity, volunteered at local nursing homes and, along with her team, visited with the children at Toby Keith’s OK Kids Korral, a home for pediatric cancer patients.
The No. 10-seeded Aggies begin play at the NCAA Austin Regional on Monday, May 7.
