Colorado Springs, Colo. — Texas A&M women’s swimming and diving coach Steve Bultman has been named Team USA’s head women’s coach for the 2019 Pan American Games, USA Swimming announced on Wednesday.

Bultman will lead a strong U.S. national team against many of the world’s top swimmers at the quadrennial completion, which will be contested July 26-August 11 in Lima, Peru. Among the loaded Team USA roster are a trio of Bultman’s former swimming pupils: Bethany GalatSarah Gibson and Claire Rasmus.

“It’s absolutely a great honor to be representing the United States at the 2019 Pan American Games, and it’s an extra bonus to have some of my swimmers on the roster,” Bultman said. “I’m also proud that after this competition, I will have served on Team USA coaching staffs for all of the major international swimming meets. It’s always fun, exciting, and motivating to represent your country, especially on the international stage.”

Bultman, the Aggies’ head women’s coach since 1999, is no stranger to the Team USA coaching staff. He served as the head women’s coach at the 2009 World University Games and he was an assistant on both the 1988 and 2012 U.S. Olympic swimming coaching staffs. Additionally, he also held assistant coach titles at the 1985 Pan Pacific Championships, the 2001and 2015 World University Games and the 2013 FINA World Championships.

Bultman has built the Texas A&M swimming and diving program into one of the nation’s best. He’s led the Aggies to eight conference championships, including the last four Southeastern Conference crowns, and his teams have logged 12 top 10 finishes at the NCAA Championships, including six top four efforts over the past seven seasons. A 17-time conference coach of the year or coach of the meet, Bultman was named to the American Swim Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2005.
