Texas A&M’s Bratton earns silver at U.S. Open

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. — Texas A&M junior Lisa Bratton took second place in the women’s 200-meter back on Thursday at the 2017 U.S. Open Championships at the Nassau County Aquatics Center.

Bratton, from Richland, Wash., narrowly missed the gold medal with a time of 2:08.78, which was just one-hundredth of a second behind the winner, Matea Samardzic of Croatia (2:08.77). Bratton covered the final 50 meters in 32.35, easily the fastest 50 split of the day, but just missed out-touching Samardzic, who competes collegiately at SMU.

“I wish I could have seen (Samardzic),” Bratton said. “It would have been fun to race side by side. But I’m extremely happy with that swim. I’ve been a little bit off in the 200 back for a little while now so it feels good to just go out there, race hard and put down a good time.”
