COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M libero/defensive specialist Victoria Arenas has been selected to compete in the 10th Annual European Global Challenge next week in Pula, Croatia.
Opening ceremonies for the tournament, which includes six teams from European countries and six teams from the United States entered in the Under 22 Division, will be July 13 with competition taking place July 14-17.
Arenas, a sophomore-to-be from Cypress, Texas, will play for BIP/USA. She is teamed with players representing eight other U.S. universities, including 2013 NCAA tournament participants American, Kansas and Texas, as well as Central Michigan, New Mexico, North Carolina-Wilmington, Pittsburg and Stony Brook. Pittsburgh’s Dan Fisher will serve as the head coach.
BIP/USA will train in Slovenia and take on Russia in a pre-tournament match on July 12 in Maribor. Live streaming of the match will be available at https://new.livestream.com/accounts/4789101/events/3169789.

Arenas saw the most action of all true freshmen on the Texas A&M team last season, playing in 27 of 31 matches and drawing a starting role as a defensive specialist nine times. She twice took team-high honors in digs — including a career-high 20 digs against Arkansas on Oct. 25 – and posted double-figure digs in five matches overall.
Arenas appeared in 84 of 111 sets as a rookie and ranked fourth on the team with 2.15 digs per set for the full season as the Aggies went 19-12 and advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament. She was third on the team with 2.35 digs per set in SEC matches only.
Arenas and the Aggies report to campus August 8 and the open the 2014 campaign August 29, taking on Tulane on the first day of the Texas A&M Invitational at Reed Arena.
