News release from Texas A&M Athletics:
BRISTOL, Conn. – ESPN announced Monday the Texas A&M women’s basketball contest versus Syracuse on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at Reed Arena will take place at 6:15 p.m. on ESPNU as part of the second annual SEC-ACC Challenge.
Last season, the Aggies dominated in their matchup against the ACC with an 81-57 victory at Wake Forest that helped the SEC even the challenge at seven games apiece.
The Aggies hold a 1-2 record versus Syracuse all-time with their last victory coming in the 2016 season. December 4th’s matchup will be the first for the two programs inside Reed Arena.
Texas A&M is led by third-year head coach Joni Taylor who took the program to its first trip to the NCAA Tournament since 2021 last year. Taylor increased her win total from year one to year two by 10 games which was tied for the biggest win jump by an SEC coach in their first two years since the start of women’s basketball in the NCAA (1981-82).
The Aggies return two-time All-SEC selection Aica Coulibaly who led the team in points (13.6) and steals per game (2.3), as well as pacing the squad in field goal percentage (52.4%). Lauren Ware also comes back as the defensive anchor for the Maroon & White after recording 1.7 blocks per game and nine double-doubles.
