CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Texas A&M women’s golf head coach Gerrod Chadwell was named to the 2023-24 Division I WGCA National Coach of the Year Watch List, the organization announced Wednesday.
Chadwell is nearing the end of his third year at the helm of the Aggies. In that time, he has taken the program to new heights, reaching the NCAA semifinals in back-to-back years and winning the 2023 SEC Championship.
Chadwell has coached junior Adela Cernousek to a stellar year where she is leading the team and on pace to shatter the single season stroke average program record with a 70.07 average. The Antibes, France, native was selected to the 2024 All-SEC First Team and recently won the U.S. Open Qualifier to earn a spot at the U.S. Open May 30-June 2.
Under his tutelage, Cernousek, Zoe Slaughter, Jennie Park and Blanca Fernández García-Poggio all have career stroke averages within the top six in the A&M record book. Chadwell also brought to Aggieland the No. 17 amateur in the world in Cayetana Fernández García-Poggio who earned a spot on the All-SEC Second Team in her freshman campaign.
This season, the Aggies have placed within the top five of every tournament, including three runner-up finishes. The Maroon & White are ranked No. 13 in the country and are looking to continue their success at the NCAA Championships May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California, at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa.
